1)Organization: -

Safety wing on the division is headed by Sr. DSO, who is further assisted by ADSO and a team of 06 Safety Counsellors & 01 TI (Safety).

3.Achievements and steps for improvement of Safety –

(i)Night & footplate inspection by officers – Night and footplate inspections at officers level are regularly being conducted and daily position is being sent to GM/NCR.

(ii)Safety Inspection by officers– As per instructions of CRB, a programme of safety inspection at officer level from 26-05-12 to 10-06-12, covering all aspects of train running in all the section of JHS division, was issued by Safety department. During the drive, 70 inspections were conducted.

(iii)(a)Mobile Van- Awareness campaign was launched on safety precautions at manned and unmanned LC gates, cattle run over, Jehar khurani. It was organized over various schools, villages, bazars, RTO offices, tehsils and districts of the division.

(b)Nukkad Nataks were organized at several villages and LC gates in the division by safety team of JHS division for educating Local public on taking all safety precautions at level crossing gates to prevent train accidents as well as Safety of road users.

(c) Special seminars were also organized with Road Transport Officers,name              Orai,        Dholpur,      Jhansi, Gwalior, Lalitpur & Banda for creating                    awareness   among        general public on       precautions to be observed while              using level crossing gates.       Also, pamphlets on      Railway safety were              distributed and Safety posters were       pasted at various locations in Road             Transport Offices. Moreover, Road Transport       Officers were advised that             a questionnaire may be prepared for asking all       candidates before issuance of            Driving License.

(iv)Special campaign regarding precaution at manned and unmanned level crossing gates – Safety department has launched and special drive for counseling the people for taking precaution at manned and unmanned level crossing gates. During the drive, Nukkad nataks have been organized at various places and posters & pamphlets have been distributed at village panchayats, schools, petrol pumps, bus stands, bazaars etc. with public announcement for the same.

(v)Intensive counseling of running staff & train passing staff: All the running & train passing staff are being regularly counselled for taking safety precaution while on duty.

(vi)Safety Seminar: Department is regularly organizing safety seminar at various places in the division for alertness of staff related to train operation. Recently seminars were organized atJHS, GWL, BNDA, BSZ, DHO, OR & LAR.

(vii)Counselling of road users - Safety department is regularly counselling road users and the villagers residing near railway track regarding safety precautions. Important topics being covered are – safety precautions while crossing L.Xing gates, avoid cattle grazing near railway track, avoid roof traveling, traveling on foot board, non- carrying inflammable materials during journey etc.

(viii)Ambush Checks - Ambush checks are being done to check alertness of the running and train passing staff regarding following of max permissible speeds, caution orders, whistling at appropriate locations and exchange of All right signals, drunkenness etc.

(ix)Safety Drives - Regular Safety drives have been launched in the division covering important aspects of train working covering all the departments for counselling of staff. Deficiencies noted are being advised to concerned department for corrective action. In the current year safety drives on the subjects like air pressure continuity test and brake feel test, prevention of shortcut method during maintenance/repair/work execution, reduction of accidents at unmanned level crossing, prevention of accident during shunting operation, action by LP on observing lurch and some other unusual, Counselling of staff and checking the safety aspects of shunting, use of cotter pin for locking of points, precautions to be taken while clearing stabled load, regarding cutting/trimming of trees likely to infringe railway track have been launched involving officers and supervisors of all the departments.

(x)Publication of Seasonal booklets – Summer, monsoon and winter precaution booklets have been published giving important precautions and preparations before onset of the seasons for the benefit ofmaintenance, running and train passing staff.

(xi)Publication of Divisional Disaster Management Plan - Divisional Disaster Management Plan of JHS division has been published in December 2011.

(xii)Inspections by Officers - Inspections are being done at officers level covering all the sections of the division and all aspects of train running.

(xiii)Infrastructure at LC gates - All the LC gates have been inspected by safety counselors for checking infrastructure available at gates. Shortcomings noticed have been advised to concerned department for improving them.

3.Awards -

In order to encourage the staff to be vigilant and safety conscious, provision of award  has been made. During the period, April 12 to March 13, a total of  Rs. 15400/-has been distributed as cash award to staff for detecting and reporting unusual, which are potentially dangerous from accident point of view.

4.Pending DAR cases arising out of consequential train accident:NIL            .
