4.2Major Yards
4.2.1Jhansi
An intermediate yard at Jhansi handles rakes for POH wagons for workshop, loaded rakes for goods shed, military special rakes and traction changing trains. There is carriage & wagon examination depot for freight stock, which examines 4 to 5 rakes every day. Further Jhansi is also having major passenger depot where 16 rakes of passenger trains are maintained. The yard consists of 3 by-pass lines of full length, 2 R&D lines, 3 UP dispatch lines, 2DN dispatch lines ,and 11 marshalling lines (of less than standard length).Deficiency of the number of full length lines in the yard, at times, forces stabling of loads atroadside stations.
4.2.2Gwalior
Gwalior is an intermediate yard, handling goods sheds rakes and military specials. It has a major coaching maintenance yard and depot both for BG and NG trains.
4.3Traffic Control

9Performance of Over All Maintenance BLOCKS HOURS Provided to Engg. & TD Department.
During current financial year track maintenance works has been taken up on priority and despite the heavy flow of through freight traffic maximum time for maintenance has been provided to concerned departments.
The cumulative performance of maintenances blocks as well as block hours for the period of April-June 2012 – 2013 are as under: -
| Sr. No. | Department | 2011-2012 April-June | 2012-2013 April-June | % Age Variation of Block Hrs. |

10.Innovations / achievements : -
10.1 Insertion of Limited Height Subway at LC gate no. 410C between SLV-ARI section.
In April-2012 the work of, insertion of limited height subway at engg. gate no. 410Cbetween SLV-ARI section was taken on hand and the limited height subway has been inserted after a five hours traffic mega block. The block was operated from 07.00 hrs and completed at 12.20 hrs.
11.Operational Constraints of JHS
Presently JHS station is a ‘B’ class Std-I station having 3 bypass line of full length and 2 R&D line of inadequate CSR. At present the average running time of UP goods trains ex KRQ to BJI is about 90” and average running time of DN goods trains ex BJI to KRQ is about 180”. The speed on turnouts is 15 kmph and speed in Bypass line is 10 kmph. As such JHS yard has became a bottle neck of JHS division.
In addition to this, the gradient of ORC-JHS section is 1 in 125, there are goods trains hauled by one single diesel loco of being stalled, if through home signal is not given. The running time of goods train ex ORC to JHS is 20” and on giving through signals there are chances of M/Exp. trains being hit at JHS. Since the goods train ex. ORC have to cut across UP & DN main line.
