PUNCTUALITY DRIVE YIELD RESULTS: PUNCTUALITY OF NCR INCREASES BY 11.32% WITHIN 5 DAYS
The 15 days’ punctuality drive launched by the North Central Railway on the4rd of May, has begun to yield results. Data shows that in the 5 days that have passed since the launch of the drive, the cumulative punctuality of Mail Express trainsover North Central Railway has increased by 11.32% when compared to the cumulative punctuality of the same in the month preceding the launch of the drive.It is noteworthy that the Zone closed the financial year 2017-18 on a high by improving the cumulative punctuality by 13.1% over the previous financial year, which was the best ever improvement in punctuality in the zone. That this improvement was achieved along 57% improvement in safety, 54% improvement in Through Rail Renewal and 19% improvement in the number of maintenance blocks made it even more special. It is pertinent to mention here that NCR carries 15% of the traffic of Indian Railways on just 5% of its route length. “Indian Railways is in a process of transformation and NCR is an important part of the same” says GM/NCR Shri M.C. Chauhan. 1058kms out of the 1856kms of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) lie in NCR, comprising 57% of the total route length of the EDFC. “The work of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) is also in full swing, which is expected to be completed in another about year and a half. After completion of this work, goods trains on our Mughalsarai-Ghaziabad section would be shifted to the EDFC, which will lead to a quantum jump in the punctuality of Mail-Express trains in NCR.” Adds GM/NCR. It is noteworthy that infrastructure enhancement works and maintenance works both require blocks. The situation becomes even more challenging in a zone like NCR, which has most of its trunk routes operating at a line capacity of more than 150%. “We put a premium on time when it comes to executing works in the zone. one example that I can give is of the commissioning of Electronic Interlocking in Dadri Yard last year in a record time of just 150 minutes. Such performances have helped us to register improvement in punctuality along with the execution of all the infrastructure and maintenance works that are needed in the zone.” Says GM/NCR. The improvement in punctuality that has been registered by NCR in the past 5 days, since the launch of the punctuality drive has come about due to the following factors:
1)Strict monitoring of Engineering Allowance Consumption on Mughalsarai-Ghaziabad and Palwal-Bina sections. The Limited Height Subway works were also commissioned within the Engineering Time Allowance provided in the Working Time Table.
2)Optimum utilization of third line between Mathura-Palwal in both UP and Down directions to give through run to Mail/Express trains.
3)Sensitization of staff for prompt action during Asset Failures to reduce the time taken in the rectification of the failure.
4)Hourly monitoring of punctuality at all levels, including the highest level.
