NCR STARTS onLINE LIVE VIDEO RECORDING OF UNDER GEAR OF ROLLING STOCK AT ROLLING EXAMINATION POINT: USES LATEST TECHNOLOGY TO ENHANCE SAFETY
The North Central Railway,(NCR) has introduced another ‘first’ in the field of safety in train operations under the guidance of GM/NCR Shri M.C. Chauhan. Leveraging latest technology, live recording of the under gear of the rolling stock at ‘Rolling Examination Points’ has been started by the Zonal Railway. Initially, first such facility has been established at Agra Cantt Station of NCR, which is one of the most important stations of the zone and also has the pride of being the first-stop-station of the prestigious GatimanExpress. In this system, the platform lines are covered with CCTV cameras to record and monitor the condition of the undergearof the Rolling stock to detect any hanging parts and/or any other defects. In each such location, three cameras (two on each side of the track at low height to capture the undergear parts & one camera at medium height to capture the coach/wagon number) are deployed. The track side cameras capture the undergear parts at a speed of 60 frames per second and are equipped with advanced features like Internet Protocol (IP), 12X Zoom, Veri-focal and Night Vision. The ‘rolling hut’ which receives the feed from these cameras has been provided with a 40inch LED display, with a 4-terabyte hard disk, sufficient to store recordings of one month along with UPS backup through a dedicated inverter. Speaking on the initiative, GM/NCR said that it is an effort to leverage technology to make train operations safer than ever. “It is a relatively low-cost solution that reduces the possibility of overlooking of defects and also keeps sufficient data safe for a sufficiently long period of time for future examination and analysis-a feature that was not available in only manual inspection undergear of trains at rolling examination points” he added. This work has been undertaken as a technology-proving-initial-phase step. Based on the experience gained from it, modifications (if required) will be done and then the same will be extended to cover all the rolling examination points.
